Terms of use
Last updated 8 October 2026
The agreement between you and us when you use Zap, in plain English.
The short version
- Zap helps you decide which photos to delete. You choose, and iOS does the deleting after you confirm. Deleted photos stay in Recently Deleted for 30 days.
- Zap is free with a daily allowance. Zap+ removes the limit. Subscriptions renew until you cancel them in your iPhone’s Settings. Lifetime is paid once and never renews.
- Apple handles every payment and every refund.
- Please keep your own backups of photos you care about.
About these terms
These terms are an agreement between you and Cain Mackenzie-Yapa, the developer shown as the seller of Zap on the App Store (“we”, “us”). By using Zap you agree to them. Please also read our privacy policy, which explains how we handle your information: usezap.app/privacy
If you got Zap from the App Store, Apple’s standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies: apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula/ These terms add to it. If the two ever conflict, Apple’s agreement wins.
What Zap is
Zap is an iPhone app for clearing out your photo library. It shows you one photo at a time: swipe left to put it in the bin, swipe right to keep it. When you’re ready, you empty the bin and iOS deletes those photos. Your photos stay on your iPhone, as our privacy policy explains.
Your account
You need to sign in with Apple to use Zap. Your account is for you alone, and you’re responsible for what happens on it, so keep your iPhone and your Apple Account secure. Signing in for the first time, buying Zap+ and using referrals need an internet connection.
Your photos and deleting them
Zap is a tool for deciding what to delete. You choose what goes in the bin, and you confirm the deletion in iOS’s own message. Zap can’t delete anything without that step.
Deleted photos go to Recently Deleted in Photos, where iOS keeps them for 30 days and you can restore them yourself. After that they’re gone for good. We can’t get them back, because Zap never had a copy.
Please keep your own backups of photos you care about. Because you choose and confirm every deletion, and iOS keeps deleted photos for 30 days, we’re not responsible for photos you chose to delete and didn’t restore in time.
The free daily allowance
Zap is free to use with a daily allowance of swipes. It resets at 7am your time each day.
Your allowance starts at 150 swipes a day. Each day in a row that you use Zap adds 25, up to 300 a day from your seventh day. If you miss a day, your streak ends and your allowance goes back to 150.
Unused swipes from your daily allowance don’t carry over to the next day.
We may change the allowance or how the streak works. If we do, we’ll update these terms.
Referrals
You can invite friends with your referral code or link. When someone uses your code, you each get 1,000 extra swipes, once. There is no limit on how many friends you can invite.
Extra swipes are saved for you. They’re used only after your free daily allowance has run out, and they don’t expire.
Each person can use a referral code once, and only once, even with a new account. You can’t use your own code, and if you used a friend’s code, they can’t use yours. Opening an invite link applies its code to your account automatically.
Referral swipes have no cash value and can’t be sold or transferred. If we see fake or automated accounts, or other abuse, we may refuse or remove referral swipes and stop that account using referrals.
Zap+
Zap+ removes the daily limit and unlocks every folder: Screenshots, Videos, Live Photos, Screen Recordings, Bursts, Portrait, Selfies, Slo-mo and Time-lapse. Everything else in Zap is the same with or without it.
You can buy Zap+ in five ways:
- Monthly or Yearly: an auto-renewing subscription for you.
- Family Monthly or Family Yearly: an auto-renewing subscription shared through Apple’s Family Sharing (see below).
- Lifetime: a one-time purchase that never renews (see below).
Prices are shown in the app and the App Store before you buy, in your local currency, including any tax. Payment is taken from your Apple Account when you confirm the purchase.
Subscriptions: renewal and cancelling
A subscription renews automatically at the end of each month or year, at the price shown at the time, unless you turn off auto-renew at least 24 hours before the current period ends. Your Apple Account is charged for the renewal within the 24 hours before the period ends.
To cancel or change a subscription, open Settings on your iPhone, tap your name, then Subscriptions. Cancelling stops the next renewal. You keep Zap+ until the end of the period you’ve paid for.
Deleting Zap, or deleting your Zap account, does not cancel a subscription. Only Apple can, through the Subscriptions screen.
Zap+ doesn’t include a free trial at the moment. If we offer one in future, the App Store will show you how long it lasts and when you’ll first be charged before you confirm, and you’ll be charged when it ends unless you cancel at least 24 hours before.
Moving between plans is handled by Apple. Usually an upgrade starts straight away and a move to a cheaper plan starts at your next renewal, and Apple works out any credit. If a subscription price goes up, Apple tells you first and, where the rules require it, asks you to agree.
Lifetime
Lifetime is a one-time purchase. You pay once, and you have Zap+ for as long as we offer Zap and you keep your account. It never renews and is never charged again.
If you buy Lifetime while you have a Monthly or Yearly subscription, that subscription keeps renewing until you cancel it with Apple. Zap shows you how. Lifetime is for your own Apple Account. It isn’t shared through Family Sharing.
If you get a new iPhone, sign in to Zap with the same Apple Account and use Restore if Zap+ doesn’t appear.
Family plans
Family Monthly and Family Yearly work through Apple’s Family Sharing. The family organiser buys the plan, and up to five other people in the same Apple family group get Zap+ too, so up to six people in all. Each person signs in to Zap with their own Apple Account, and their account and photos stay their own.
The organiser manages and cancels the plan. If the plan ends, or someone leaves the family group, they lose Zap+ from that plan. Apple’s Family Sharing rules decide who can join a family group and what is shared.
The ordinary Monthly and Yearly plans are for one person and aren’t shared.
Refunds
Apple takes every payment, so refunds are handled by Apple under its own rules, not by us. To ask for one, go to reportaproblem.apple.com If Apple refunds a purchase, the Zap+ it paid for ends.
Nothing in these terms takes away your legal rights as a consumer, including your rights about digital content.
Using Zap fairly
Please don’t:
- copy, sell, rent or reverse engineer Zap, except where the law allows;
- interfere with Zap, our servers or other people using Zap, or try to get around the allowance, the paywall or the referral rules;
- use bots, scripts or fake accounts with Zap;
- use Zap to handle material you have no right to have.
We give you a personal licence to use Zap on Apple devices you own or control. You can’t transfer it to someone else.
Changes to Zap
We keep improving Zap, so features may change. We’ll try to keep it running smoothly, but we can’t promise it will always be available or free of faults. If we make a change that takes away something important you’ve paid for, your legal rights as a consumer still apply.
Our responsibility to you
If we break these terms or don’t use reasonable care and skill, we’re responsible for loss or damage you suffer that was a foreseeable result. Loss is foreseeable if it was obvious it would happen, or if we both knew it might happen when you agreed to these terms.
We’re not responsible for loss that wasn’t foreseeable, for business losses (Zap is for personal use), or for photos you chose to delete, as explained above.
Nothing in these terms limits our responsibility where the law doesn’t allow it to be limited. That includes death or personal injury caused by our negligence, fraud, and your rights under consumer law, such as the right to digital content that is as described, fit for purpose and of satisfactory quality.
Ending your use of Zap
You can stop using Zap at any time. To delete your account, tap the … button at the top of the deck to open Account, then Help & feedback, then Delete account at the bottom, under Danger zone. Remember to cancel any subscription with Apple too.
We may suspend or close an account that seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms. We’ll tell you why where we can. If we close an account that hasn’t broken these terms, we’ll give you reasonable notice where we can, and your legal rights still apply.
Changes to these terms
If we change these terms, we’ll change the date at the top. If a change matters, we’ll tell you in the app before it takes effect. If you don’t agree to the new terms, you can stop using Zap and delete your account.
The law that applies
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and you can bring a claim in the courts of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring a claim in your own courts. If you live in the EU, you also keep the protections of your own country’s consumer law.
